Hello, Readers! Welcome to Autumn 2011. Here
at Serenity, the leaves are already beginning to change, and
it's only a matter of days until I'll be uploading foliage shots
and raving about the vibrant colors. I love living in the
NorthEast in the Fall!
First, book news, because that's what you most
likely came here to see.
TWILIGHT FULFILLED, the Wings in the Night
series finale, and the end of an era, goes on sale September
20th in print form, and on October 1st in all electronic
formats.
Reviews have been pouring in, and they are
absolutely stellar. They're consistently the best reviews I've
ever had for any of my books.
Readers will feel as if they can touch
the connection sizzling between the duo. This story will have readers on the edge of their seats
and begging for more. -- RT Bookclub Magazine
The last in an
epic journey, Twilight Fulfilled left me laughing, cheering,
squealing, and ultimately crying; all with a smile. --
Michelle Olson, LiteralAddiction.com
This is
supposedly the finale of this groundbreaking, magnificent
series. I pray to all that is holy that this is not true. It's
like the breaking up of the Beatles...

Reviews
I've produced a new video book trailer too:
We've just heard that audio rights have sold,
and that the audio release from Audible.com will also be in
October. There's no link yet, but I believe it will go live on
October 1st at Audible.com

My September is filled with Promotional
Appearances as follows:
Meanwhile, I'm hard at work polishing the final
draft of the first title of my new trilogy, The Portal.
Book 1, MARK OF THE WITCH, releases just about exactly a
year from now, in October 2012. It's original due date, the
date I was supposed to finish it and have it on my editor's
desk, was 9/1. I had to ask for a two week extension, which
isn't really very long, and which was generously granted. It
will be done by the 15th, I have no doubt. Okay, I have some
doubts. But I'm determined! And it's going beautifully, some
of the best writing I think I've ever done. My heroine, Indira
Simon, is one of my favorites ever. A Brooklyn girl, with
attitude to spare, a lapsed Wiccan who works at a Flower Shop
and believes in nothing, but is chosen to wield power beyond her
imagining. Her hero is a priest with a mission-to stop her.
Yeah, talk about conflict. I'm loving this book!
Why was I late, you wonder? Well, read on.
It's all under the heading of "Family."
The past few weeks have been absolutely
jam-packed with events here at Shayne-Central, so I'll move
straight on to the "Personal Update" segment of this post.
First: I'm a Grammy! (Again!) On Wednesday, August 24th, my
daughter Jessica (AKA,
The Author's Life Saver) gave birth to
little Brett Caleb Lewis! He weighed a little over 7 lbs.
There were some scary complications, and the baby aspirated
stuff he shouldn't have, and wound up serving a brief sentence
in the Neonatal ICU at Wilson Hospital in Binghamton. But it
all turned out just fine, and he is home and thriving now. We
had a long, scary night, and a lot of worrying over the
following days, but as I said, it's all good now. Thank
goodness!
Less than 72 hours later, we had the second huge
event of August. On August 27th, at the gorgeous Hope Lake
Lodge Mountain Resort in Virgil (though it claims to be in
Cortland) NY, my daughter Stacie and new son-in-law Chris, were
married. Oh, it was a beautiful day! The sun shone, the sunset
was spectacular, and Stacie was absolutely beautiful. Jessica
even managed to make it to the ceremony and perform her duty as
a bridesmaid, even though little Brett Caleb was still in the
hospital. And I'm so glad she did, because it wouldn't have
been complete without her. It was truly a beautiful wedding.
When Stacie stepped down out of the horse drawn carriage in her
gown, I burst into tears. It was just magickal! Oh, here's a
link to the rest of the photos (the ones I took anyway) at my
Picasa page.
Check them out, (after you finish reading this, of
course!)
And then life rolled on. And another 72 hours
later, (well, more like 80) the next big gigantic thing
happened. This one, not so nice. Another of my daughters,
Katie, had a falling out with her husband of just over a year.
While she was working the night shift as an Emergency Room
nurse, he went on an alcohol-induced rampage in her home,
destroying everything he could, which was a lot. He then took
her car and wrecked it. We spent days cleaning up and filing
for orders of protection. I got a lot of footage of the damage
for evidence and ended up making a powerful video about what
happened.
We're using it to kick off a new website to raise
funds for Katie's recovery and legal costs, and giving away tons
of prizes, including critiques from a number of authors,
autographed books, an ebook formatting service from Jessica at
Authorslifesaver.com, a three month mentorship from another
author, and more coming in all the time. Donors get tickets to
the drawing/s of their choice, and we draw for prizes every
Monday. It's a lot of fun for a good cause, and it's a site we
intend to keep going into the future. This year, it's for
Katie. Next time, we'll raise funds for area women's shelters
and other resources that empower women and help them rise from
the ashes of domestic violence. The site is

And today, another big hit. My daughter Stacie,
freshly back from her honeymoon, is watching the water rise in
her home as our area experiences record setting flooding due to
the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. Much of Binghamton has been
evacuated. She's in one of the hardest hit areas, the town of
Newark Valley, but has not been told to leave. It would be
pretty hard to do at this point anyway. Water's within two
stair-steps of the top of the basement stairs and rising. I'll
keep posting on Twitter with updates. Serenity is on high
ground, but even here the ditches are flooding into the roads.
So that's all been the past two weeks. During
which time we also had an earthquake! (I felt the trembler in
my office, though it was too far away to do any damage. Just
very unique--we never feel quakes in central NY and I was
stunned. Stunned!) And a hurricane by the name of Irene, which
caused things to get soggy, but kindly delayed its arrival until
the morning after Stacie's wedding.
Lee is hitting our area far harder than Irene
did. I'm advising everyone to face Texas and blow as hard as
they can. They're suffering drought and wildfires there, so
let's send some of this rain their way.
Stay safe my friends, wherever you are. Curl up
where it's high and dry, or cool and fireproof, with a good
book. I'll be doing the same! Until next time,
